This just in on behalf of the splendid Hillfields Animal Sanctuary in Bromsgrove, West Midlands.
URGENT APPEAL - the recent harsh & freezing weather conditions has meant that the feed & bedding costs have increased enormously. The sanctuary funds are dangerously low, so please consider whether you are able to make a donation now to help secure the animals future, it really is such a worrying time for owner Lyn Tudor

There's an interview with Tony of Greyhound Action up at www.saveascream.com/greyhoundaction.htm
You can also find an interview with Jamie of Natural Balance Foods, the company that produce Nakd and Trek, at www.saveascream.com/naturalbalancefoods.htm
And I've also put Nakd and Trek in the recommendation section as they are soooo good!
Anyone eat Nakd or Trek already?
If not, you HAVE to try them. You'll love them.

We have some 40 animals living their lives out with us here at ew. The water supply has frozen to the barns so having to carry buckets of water down the yard over an iced track is a particular challenge in itself.
So with what we are coping with in this weather for our small percentage of animals, please spare a thought for the sanctuaries who have 100’s of animals. Any assistance you can give them I am sure will be well received.

I have been thinking hard about being vegan and the network of support I have enjoyed in my personal vegan story. I am filled with admiration for these wonderful, hard-working people who devote themselves entirely and tirelessly to the vegan cause. Becoming vegan has been easy for me because of the books, websites, podcasts and events that have been literally in my lap from Day 1; just a Google search away. My particular heroes have been:
Colleen Patrick Goudreau / Compassionate Cooks: This American lady has a unique gift for presenting veganism in a way that is concise, informative, open and friendly and she somehow manages to pull in listeners of her podcast without sounding preachy or judgmental. She is ALL about the animals but she also shares really important knowledge of cooking, nutrition, cruelty-free shopping and also provides excellent resources through her website. Colleen is the powerful but gentle door to veganism.

I thought I would snatch the first vegppl.com blog of 2010!
Firstly, I would like to wish you all health, happiness and prosperity in the coming year.
I think New Year's Resolutions can be a bit dangerous but here are a few I might try to do:

So this is goodbye to the old year and hello to 2010. Let's hope it could be full of peace, compassion and caring for all with 2 & 4 legs, but somehow with all the tragedy in the world...
Thank you to one and all for showing support for ew; we do really appreciate it.

I've just added an interview with Birmingham rock band Pieces Of Beth fronted by vegan Phil Griffiths to the
SaveAScream.com website.
You can also find an article I wrote - 'An English Vegan In New York' - recommending various vegan diners and other cool places to visit.
There are some cool new animal rights related T-shirts on the Recommended page too.

A disrupted morning here at ew; unwanted intrusion with the ‘hunt', men with guns walking over our land, and hounds in the distance.
Exchanges passed between us and them whilst we ‘politely' suggested they might like to leave...
All our animals (goats, sheep, horses & even Aunt Dotty the cow ) spooked.
Only hope any foxes around did get away as we could do nothing about them being on neighbouring land.
So it is just as well our wonderful government have banned hunting, and hunting with dogs……!

We have recently found out that the Newcastle Theatre Royal are allowing animals to be used in performaces including the current panto.
During the show we saw a rather poor looking horse being forced to do rather silly tricks, a very skinny looking cat stuck in a box for a magic trick. A shetalnd only also in a box & birds for other tricks.
The Theatre assures us they are well looked after but there are very loud explosions during the show which Im sure would upset any animal.
