We've tried to make the VeggiePeople site as easy to use as possible, however we know that to new eyes the navgation might cause some confusion so we've compiled a list of frequently asked questions below.

Pre-registered Questions

Q.1 What is Vegppl.com?
Vegppl.com (veggiepeople) is a FREE social networking for vegetarians and vegans.

Q.2 Who can join Vegppl.com?
Vegppl.com is social site for vegetarians, vegans and what we call apprentice veggies. Below are the definitions for a vegetarian a vegan and an apprentice veggie.
Vegetarian:
The Vegetarian Society, formed in 1847, define a vegetarian as someone living on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits, with or without the use of dairy products and eggs. A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, or slaughter by-products.
Vegan:
The Vegan Society, founded in 1944, defines a vegan as someone who tries to live without exploiting animals, for the benefit of animals, people and the planet. Vegans eat a plant-based diet, with nothing coming from animals - no meat, milk, eggs or honey, for example. A vegan lifestyle also avoids leather, wool, silk and other animal products for clothing or any other purpose.
Apprentice Veggie:
Vegppl's definition of an apprentice veggie is someone who has positive thoughts and wishes regarding a meat-free diet or lifestyle but is stuck at the gates so to speak needing just a little extra help from others on the inside to help welcome them in. Be kind to them and lead by example.

Q.3 Who runs Vegppl.com?
Vegppl.com is part of Vegeco Ltd, a vegetarian business.

Q.4 How do I register?
You can register by clicking on the big green 'Join Us Now, It's Free' button.
The sign-up process has several stages. First you complete the registration forms remembering to include a valid email. Once submitted, an email with a confirmation link is sent to the email you registered with. Secondly, you need to login to your regular email account, look for the email from Vegppl.com and click on the link to confirm your account. (check the trash/spam folder). Once confirmed, we receive an email letting us know you have completed registration, and as long as everything looks genuine we can give final approval. Only after we have given final approval will you be able to login.

Q.5 What is Facebook connect?
If you are already registered with Facebook, you can use the Facebook connect button to login into Vegppl.com through your existing Facebook login meaning you don't have to remember a new login and password.

Q.6 Who can see my details?
Most details by default are only available to registered users, once registered you can adjust the level of privacy to suit yourself.

Q.7 Will my details be used for marketing?
You may receive notifications through the site from time to time but we will not sell your details to 3rd parties for marketing purposes.

 

Registered Members Questions

Q.1 I've registered and confirmed my email but can't login?
The sign-up process has several stages. First you complete the registration forms remembering to include a valid email. Secondly, you need to login to your regular email account, look for the email from Vegppl.com and click on the link to confirm your account. (check the trash/spam folder). Once confirmed, we receive an email letting us know you have completed registration, and as long as everything looks genuine we can give final approval. Only after we have given final approval will you be able to login. We do this to give the site and it's members greater security. We are based in the UK and so for some time zones final approval may take place the following day.

Q.2 How do I add a profile picture?
Uploading a profile makes you stand out and a happy face on your profile is better than none. Simply login and if you put your mouse over the 'Profile' tab, a drop down menu appears and the first choice is 'Change profile picture'.
Use the Browse button to locate you image on your local computer drive (preferably a jpg), select the image and click on the Upload button.

Q.3 How do I upload photos?
To create an album to upload photos, make sure you are logged in then choose Photos on the drop down menu when you put your mouse over the Applications tab. From here click on Create Album, give the album a name and description, save it by clicking Create Album. Now you can choose Upload Photos. On this screen you are given a list of the albums you have created, choose which one you wish to add photos too, you can then browse for individual photos to add to the album. Images are automatically resized to fit the site.

Q.4 How do I upload videos?
Adding videos to your profile is easy. The video is actually a link to one of the big video server sites like YouTube but can be played within the Vegppl site. Once you have found a video you would like to add to your profile, copy the videos address which is normally given to you in a box next to the original video. Under the Applications drop down menu choose Videos, then choose Add Video on the right. A pop-up window then tells you which sites are suitable, click Next and you are then asked for the videos link. Paste the copied link into that box, choose a category and who you would like the video to be seen by. Finally click Link Video.

Q.5 How do I start a blog?
Writing your own blog for people to read will be available soon to all registered users.

Q.6 How do I control what people can see?
Login and choose Privacy from the drop down Profile menu. Here you can choose who can view your profile, friends and photos. Select from public view, registered members only, friends only or just you.

Q.7 How do I join or start a group?
Once you are logged in, choose Groups from the drop down Applications menu. Here you can view groups or create your own.
Before creating your own group, check that it doesn't already exist, once you're sure it's a new group then click on Create Group, fill out the form and submit it for moderation. Once approved you can invite people to join your group.

Q.8 Why does my email show up as This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ?
If you registered using the Facebook Connect system, then for security reasons, a random email is entered into your email field. You can change this to your correct email at any time to make sure you don't miss out on invites, event notifications and messages.

Q.9 How do I 'tag' a photo?
Once a photo is on the site, if you have access, then underneath the image you will see the option to 'tag' it. This means identify yourself or one of your friends in the photo. Once tagged the names of the people in the photo appear at the bottom and also when you move your mouse across that person in the photo.

Q.10 What does the Karma rating mean?
Your Karma rating reflects how active you are on the site. You score points for all sorts of things like adding friends, joining groups, uploading photos and more. The more you take part the higher your Karma.
