Havenheed Opposite Opinion Days 1-10 March

Vegans are often viewed as narrow minded and unwilling to hear any views other than their own. To combat this perception Jonas Hello, Head of State of the world's only all vegan nation Havenheed has created Opposite Opinion Days or OpOp Days. OpOp Days is an event that takes place in the first 10 days of March. Below is the press release from Havenheed explaining what the event involves.

One can see a trend in our modern, 'open' society, where some people, governments and organisations want to restrict free speech. You may think certain so-called unconventional expressions and opinions could stand to be banned, but consider that with such a stance, the thoughts you hold today could also be made illegal tomorrow!

Havenheed - an organization committed to e.g. these issues - therefore invites everyone with an interest in debate, democracy and freedom to ”Opposite Opinion Days", 1-10 March, in every conceivable social media arena. We feel it is important to pay attention to, be grateful for, and celebrate, freedom of speech and opinion - and to never take it for granted!

A few days of expressing opposing views also means one opens up to new ways of thinking, and while it might seem hard to force yourself to argue for ideas you don't really support, you also build new tools to later use against these views: maybe you discover new errors in the opposite ideology, perhaps you'll find new perspectives for attack, and perhaps - and this is certainly a tantalizing danger - you can find aspects of your enemys' opinions you can take a liking to! Even a change of opinion may be the result of these days, on your behalf or from the opposition!

A few short words, finally, on the method of approach - it is perhaps not entirely clear how to create such a letter to the editor 'under a false flag', and to not be misunderstood: The idea is to write under the heading "Havenheed Opposite Opinion Days", or "Havenheed OpOp", and that this should thus be understood as a letter under not entirely truthful premises. Please also sign with your name, or a pseudonym, and briefly explain your true position - see my signature!

You can find more information on the Havenheed website, with clarifications and suggestions for approaches on this difficult challenge!

We hope to see you in the newspapers, 1 to 10 March. Introduce your own letters, reply to others', sign up for the views you do not share, and defend democracy in all its diversity!

Hi, I've just joined and it's good to talk to other people with the same views.  I was just wondering if anyone else found that people acted differently when they found out you were a vegetarian/vegan.  This happened with my teacher.

Thanx.

Reading this great post from Tim Gier prompted me to raise the subject of single-issue campaigns, a topic I haven’t mentioned before because of the bad feeling it seems to generate...

I am new here. Trying to find my way around. I became a vegan about a year ago now. I am so happy about it. I am a vegan not because of my health, this is a nice side effect to it. But I love animals so much. I am doing this for them.

I love to meet others who are vegan and vegipeople and who loves the animals of this earth.

If it hadn’t been for events in Egypt, I think the death of two horses at Newbury Racecourse last Saturday might have topped the weekend’s headlines...

Iv'e written many blogs over the years about life and boyfriends and usual stuff like that. Never have a written a blog which is actually important to me, and that is animal rights and my vegetarianism.

When i was 12 i watched two videos which has changed my life which most animal lovers have probly watched also.  The first one was 'Chew on This' which states 30 reasons to become a vegetarian. All reasons where valid and most of them make me sick to think for 12 years, i had been eating a result of cruelty and inhumanity. The second was a video off peta showing how minks were killed for fur...when i say killed most of them weren't even dead when their skin was ripped off of them.

Maybe these videos where too horrific for a 12 year old to see really, and i would probably agree with you. For months i couldnt get the images of those poor animals out of my head and since that day, not a scrap of flesh has passed my lips.
