Proposed Badger cull, quashed...........

Posted by: ethicalwares on Jul 13, 2010

What an astonishing start to the day; the proposed Badger cull in Wales has been quashed by the Court of Appeal.  The Badger Trust’s opposition was simple – they questioned the effectiveness of the cull and three law lords have ruled the appeal is successful and quashed the order to cull.
Will the Welsh Assembly spend more public money to appeal and pursue this further, or return to the public purse the money already wasted.  All credit to the Badger Trust.

the Badger Trust website has yet to be updated, but if you want the link of a later date:

Save A Scream

Wow, it's been so long since I've been on here. I've been busy busy busy!

Go and read our new interview with Carrina Rowe of Nature's Boutique over at www.saveascream.com/naturesboutique.htm

Nature's Boutique sells organic natural beauty products as well as vegan bags, jewellery, personal items and more. Whether you're looking for perfume, face cream, hair conditioner, deodorant, necklaces, or even vegan condoms, Nature's Boutique is a must-visit. SaveAScream readers can get 10% discount too (the code is in the interview and recommendation on SaveAScream.com).

We also recommend - and in fact are selling - humane spider catchers. If you freak out at the sight of a spider in your house, then you need one of these. World's best invention (along with hair crimpers). If you're in the UK you can now buy one direct from SaveAScream.com - check www.saveascream.com/recommended.htm

Other updates that I don't think I posted about on vegppl:

We have a new interview on SaveAScream.com - with attorney/movie maker/animal rescuer Shannon Keith. Also interviews with Davey Havok of AFI, Gene Blalock of The Faded and Meggan Anderson.

We've also recently recommended Trash.Rags [And Dirty Jewels], BareFaced Beauty brushes and Bear.

Go check 'em out. www.SaveAScream.com

Hi Everybody,

We have just received a big fresh delivery from Viana in Germany. Lots of Tofu, Burgers, Sausages and Seitan - Perfect for this BBQ weather :)

We also received a brand new product from Viana - in fact we are the first retailer in the UK to have them! Viana Tofu Creme are a tasty range of Vegan Organic Tofu pates in 8 flavours. A great feature of this product is that they do not require refrigeration, so you can take them wherever you go and we can send them any where in the world! http://www.veggiestuff.com/acatalog/vegetarian-vegan-pates-spreads.html

So we and Vegetarian Shoes head up the list of companies selling ethical walking boots in the current Outdoor Gear Special by Ethical Consumer magazine.  Rather think that not one company, but a Vegan and a Veggie company come top of a list including some leading high street walking boot brands is something to be proud of.

And we find out that ethical WARES has apparently been an 'Ethical Consumer best buy company' for many years.  In the world and news of doom and gloom some pleasant news; especially as they've not mentioned it to us before!

This essay still needs a bit of work, but I hope you will read it all the way through and give opinions/suggestions.

I write about nomadic lifestyles a fair amount and the two issues frequently raised by others are sustainability and stability. In other words earning a living and finding a safe place to park. This essay is my suggested solution:

TOFU VERSES OKARA

Posted by: Herbivore Cat on May 05, 2010

Tagged in: Untagged

Herbivore Cat

Tofu is one of two products produced from the same process. The other much less well known product is called Okara (less glamourously known as soyameal). In Japanese okara means “Honourable Pulp”. Okara is perfectly acceptable for human consumption and there are many recipes for it. These recipes include many accessible foods such as burgers and falafels. Unfortunately in this age of mass demand and mass production okara is rarely used as human food and most of it ends up as animal feed.

The point of this blog is that although by eating bought tofu rather than meat people do not directly support the meat industry, they do help to keep alive an industry that provides the meat industry with cheap animal feed. And as tofu is made from soya milk then so of course all the okara that comes as a result of making soya milk will also end up as animal feed.

Vegan pets?

Upon searching some vegan social networking sites and recipe sites, I have found numerous recipies and ads for vegan pet food. I think it is absolutely absurd to force animals to go against their nature of eating meat. The animals don't have minds like we do to make choices, they have instinct (which is to eat meat). What do you think about vegan diets for pets? I'm pretty sure I've made my position lol :)
